My photograph "Sea Arch At Crohy Head" was featured as a double page spread in the Photography Monthly Magazine Special Issue 2014 published in November.

I was requested to submit a blog to the "Discover Ireland" website on the topic, "The Ever Changing Irish Skys". They selected six of my photographs that demonstrate some of the different types of light on the Irish landscape and asked me to comment on the challenge of photographing it.

The photograph “Tranquil Errigal” was used on the front cover of a presentation package compiled by Donegal County Council for a Business Seminar in Boston USA.

January 2012 issue of Photography Monthly featured the image Dunree Sunset, by Derek Smyth. PM Editor Jeff Meyer says: "The depth Smyth has created combined with the colourful sunset, dramatic skies and moody reflections is truly stunning. A worthy PM cover shot if ever we saw one"

Derek Smyth was named as one of the 12 finalists in the 2011 Ulster Television (UTV) program "Lesser Spotted Ulster" photographic competition with his image "Tranquil Errigal". Presenter, Joe Mahon said: “When we launched the “Lesser Spotted Snapper” competition in the autumn of 2011 we really didn’t know what to expect. Two months and more than 6,000 photographs later, and we were simply overwhelmed".

“It left our judging panel with what seemed like an insurmountable task – to choose just twelve photographs for a UTV 2012 calendar which would reflect the quality and variety of entries and, even more impossibly perhaps, to select one photograph that would stand out from all the other thousands of entries as our overall winner."

Below Derek is presented with a framed print of his entry "Tranquil Errigal" by the host Joe Mahon at a presentation held at the UTV Studios in Belfast.
