The Quiet Man Bridge
Location: 5 miles outside Oughterard down the Sky Road, County Galway.
The Quiet Man was a 1952 movie by John Ford staring John Wayne, and Maureen O'Hara. The film was set in Ireland and is notable for its lush photography of the Irish countryside. The bridge in the photograph is located in Connemara, in the west of Ireland and featured in the film. Since then it has become a big tourist attraction for thousands of film fans every year. Local wags say they are being conned: so many stones have been taken overseas as trophies that the bridge must have been rebuilt at least three times! For just a minute all the tourist had gone leaving only this quiet man fishing alone at the bridge.........
