Carlingford Castle

Carlingford Castle, also known as King John's Castle is sited on a rock overlooking the town and harbour. It was built by the Normans after the invasion in 1169 to consolidate their hold on Ireland. Carlingford was probably built some time around 1200 by Hugh De Lacey although King John did stay there for 3 days in 1210.
